Papa Lou
I met Papa Lou for the first time today. Papa Lou is a man from Easley, SC who honors his son-in-law, Spencer Foster's memory by providing Christmas bags for kindergarten children at Kellett and at a school in Charlotte. His granddaughter was a former Kindergarten teacher here at Kellett, Tia Foster. Her husband, Spencer Foster, died unexpectedly five years ago ago. So for five years. Papa Lou and his family have brought big bags full of hand-made and store-bought items for the kindergarten classes here at Kellett. They spend the year hand knitting caps, making toys, aprons, bean bags and other items. They supplement that by soliciting toys, notebooks, and recorders from business men. The result is an avalanche of gifts for the students involved. But that's not the best part. Papa Lou and his family exhibit the best in the meaning of Christmas. They remind us that, no matter how great a loss, something beautiful and wonderful can be the result. You have to respect folks like Papa Lou and his family. They give new meaning to the phrase, "Peace on Earth, good will to men."
